poppyseedheartI'm back with another simply spectacular list of fic recommendations! I read a lot of things as you may know and I like a lot of different kinds of stories. Chan and Felix are what the kids call "absolute freaks about each other in public" and as a result there is a lot of fic about them but perhaps less than we all might hope! Or at least less that I am obsessed with in terms of their relationship. That's fine though bc there's still a lot I've loved.
Someone asked me for "less popular" chanlix fics and while I def know what they meant I also know that I might have a different idea of what's popular than other people! So I'm gonna start with what I think are some heavy hitters and then move into nicher stuff.
As always, this is not a conclusive or complete list! It's just a cross between stories I loved and stories I think meet the request of the asker. Many of these authors have written more than one Chanlix btw so feel free to check their page if you liked the one I recced here!
anything by ao3 user underwaternow. no this isn't just bc i'm sitting on her couch rn. these are in my opinion the definitive chanlixes in this fandom. pitch perfect canon compliant getting together. THE felix: precocious and determined and sensitive and sweet. so many great moments. read any and all of these fics and feel blessed.
shorelight by noonwitching, 70k, rated E (the big cw here is for an off-screen suicide attempt) - showstopping, had my heart in my throat, really beautiful story about pain and hope and learning how to see someone for exactly who they are. sequel to a perfect minsung but you can technically read this one on its own if you want to deprive yourself of the experience of godlight.
nothing gold can stay by rhythmsextion, 16k, rated E - a classic canonverse getting together fic! laugh out loud funny at points but also very tender, obsessed with their at times awkward vibes. it's so real. they would!!!
Moving on to some fics I guess I consider to be less popular? Again my metrics here are all out of wack so forgive me if you're like, excuse me that's obviously a super popular fic. I did my best. That's not true. I tried to do well at least.
I of course will self rec briefly, since I've written some chanlix ranging from wedding fluff to canon compliant bittersweet future fic. feel free to check it out if you haven't. thank you.
you should be (loving someone) by sharpa, 5k, rated T - this one actually has more kudos than i would have guessed in my head, baselessly lol, so you see what i mean when i said i don't know what people consider "popular" necessarily. melancholy and careful and says soooo much with so little.
desire economy by harrowsong, 4.5k, rated E - bdsm meets delicate tender character study! harrowsong you are so good at dynamics and making meaning through connection. honestly i love this little story it's a lot about trust and fear which are two themes we know i appreciate in fiction. also there's a podfic of this one!
take me down, down by Iris_Duncan_72, rated 47k, rated T - i hesitated to rec this one because i do think it's undertagged. the ending is [SPOILERS!] [seriously spoilers skip this if you don't want to know] [last chance] legitimately an allegory for suicide, and it made me cry soooo hard. but ultimately i think it's a really beautiful story of love and friendship and care, so if you want to weep a bit this is an opportunity for that, even if the characters (esp Felix haha) don't feel all that true to life.
the mouth of the sun, by alexenglish, 10k, rated E - dubcon fuck or die where chan plays martyr and wins stupid prizes. jesus christ ao3 user alexenglish. i fucking love this one. it has so many sharp edges. if you came to this list only for chanlix happily ever afters turn away! if you came for explorations into their at times way too intense dynamic and the mess therein then read this rn.
i could not travel both and be one traveler by goodbyelover, 14k, rated T (you can listen to a discussion of this fic on Fic Clique podcast episode 45 "Take me to Carville) - side effects / district 9 / miroh music video au! there should always be more music video aus in this fandom imo. this is a great one! lots of fun with formatting and worth reading slowly to catch the details. all my bets on you, little one. ;____;
and just for kicks, a social media au! distantbluesky writes some of the funniest chanlix in the fandom for sure, please enjoy this hilarious ride if you haven't already.
+ i haven't read it but cricket did a pacific rim au that i've heard really good things about!
Hopefully this gives you something new to read <3 I am all over the place in terms of genre and vibe bc I will admit chanlix isn't a ship I tend to actively seek out very much on ao3! If the premise looks interesting and/or I'm in the right mood I love to think and read about them but they're a ship I almost enjoy more in content than in fic. (Almost. Some of these fics transcend my own preferences and are just perfect.) Regardless please enjoy some fun and/or devastating stories courtesy of your friend twig.
